Open Road in the Summer

Summer is the best time of year to abandon ordinary plans for experiences that will nourish your soul and spark inspiration in your life. Leave your comfort zone in the rear view, if only for a season. Here are 7 ways to spice up your summer travels:

Savannah, Georgia

Abandon Land and Sail Away
Whether you’re a local or a tourist, you can always find something new to experience along the Savannah River. Start the day on a riverboat tour with a “sightseeing cruise” to catch vibrant views of the lowcountry, Spanish moss and live oaks. Or, make it a “dinner cruise” with your crew and immerse yourself in the history of Savannah with cannon firings and culinary delights. Reservations are recommended as the tours fill up quickly.

St. Augustine, Florida

Ready. Set. Cast.
Escape land and set sail on a deep sea fishing excursion in St. Augustine. Climb aboard a charter boat for a half or full-day trip and conquer the experience by bringing back the biggest catch of the day. You won’t even have to worry about dinner because nothing tastes better than fresh seafood, especially when you catch it yourself. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, venture to St. George Street in the downtown historic district to explore antique treasures like the nation’s oldest wooden schoolhouse.

Asheville, North Carolina

It’ll Only Be a Beer… or Two
Whether you’re entertaining visiting guests or looking to hang out with the locals, treat yourself to a brewery tour in Asheville. You’ll sip on a variety of tastings, from IPAs to barrel-aged lagers, as you learn about the local craft favorites from several different breweries. Apart from standard tasting tours, there are dog-friendly packages, and lunch and dinner offerings. But if you are skipping the food package, be sure to eat a solid meal before the crawl begins.

Beaver Creek, Colorado

Take Your Spirit to New Heights
Ready to live life on the edge? Take an outdoor journey through new vantage points by hiking through Beaver Creek, Colorado. With hundreds of different trails arranged by skill level, there are plenty of paths that will lead you to natural hidden gems. Guided hikes are available too if you’re interested in learning more about the flora and fauna along the way. End the hike in an unexpected way with a wine excursion or five-course dinner at the top of the mountain.

Orlando, Florida

Wander Down the Path Less Traveled
Step away from the usual trip to amusement parks and travel down a new path. Orlando is dotted with a variety of nature trails, away from the bustle of the city. You can trek by foot to discover streams, plants, wetlands and Florida wildlife around the area. Or, hop on a bike and ride miles under the trees until you find the perfect picnic spot. “The City Beautiful” will offer plenty of opportunities to pause for a moment and find tranquility.

Charleston, South Carolina

A Tour with a Twist
Take a spontaneous weekend trip to South Carolina’s oldest city. While you’re in Charleston, be sure to participate in a walking tour of your choice. It’s a local favorite and the perfect way for you to feed your historic spirit with secrets from the past or make your inner foodie’s dreams come true. If you’re not thrilled about walking, consider a more exciting mode of transportation. Carriage rides are a staple in the historic downtown district, allowing guests to leave the ordinary behind for a new kind of stroll through the city. Whether you choose a public or private tour, you’ll find inspiration in the history, architecture and people that make up the “Holy City.”

Birmingham, Alabama

The track is located at Barber Motorsports Park, home to the IRL IndyCar Series and the MotoAmerica Superbike Series, but guests of all skill levels are invited to learn from well-trained instructors.
