The city of Savannah is well-known for its nods to historical figures and events, but it’s going to receive an important addition to its lineup. Next June, the Savannah riverfront will be adding a monument honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as part of the Plant Riverside District project.

Richard Kessler, the project visionary and Savannah-native, recognizes the importance of paying tribute to the late civil rights leader. This will be the first local King monument, and will include an eight-foot statue in the middle of the new public waterfront park on West River Street. The Plant Riverside District will also include the JW Marriott Savannah, more than a dozen dining options, three rooftop bars, a Grand Bohemian Art Gallery, live entertainment venue and a variety of specialty shops.
